We are passionate about protecting and caring for donkeys in need. We aim to rescue, rehabilitate, and provide lifelong sanctuary to those who need it while educating our community on the importance of donkey welfare. Our goal is to ensure that every donkey is treated with dignity and respect, allowing them to live out their days in peace.
Who We Are
Co-Founders Karen and Matt Watkins share a lifelong passion for animals, guided by three core values: consistency, compassion, and love. Together, they’ve built a place where animals are not only safe, but truly cherished. Their journey began with a simple love for animals and has grown into a mission to provide the care, respect, and stability every animal deserves. Whether it’s the daily routines that bring comfort, the gentle hands that offer reassurance, or the unconditional love that creates trust, Karen and Matt pour their hearts into every moment. For them, animal care is more than responsibility—it’s a calling. Their greatest joy comes from watching once-worried animals find peace, knowing they are finally home.

Tailwinds Farm

What was once just a lifelong dream has now taken root and grown into something beautiful. In December of 2023, Karen and Matt were lucky enough to be able to purchase the property that is now known as Tailwinds Farm. It was Matt who suggested the name “Tailwinds”, which is more than just a nod to the breeze across the fields—it’s a heartfelt tribute to Karen’s late father, a pilot, who now forever provides the tailwind guiding this farm forward.
Out of that dream, Long Ears Landing has taken shape here at Tailwinds—our sanctuary for donkeys in need. These gentle souls have become the heart of the farm, reminding us daily of the power of compassion, second chances, and unconditional love.
